Michelle Barbour, owner of Broderick’s Flowers & Coffee in Tignish
Michelle Barbour realized her dream of owning her own business in September 2023 with the opening of Broderick’s Flower’s & Coffee on Phillip Street in Tignish. Her mission is to bring delicious local comforts and warm company.

“I owe much of what I’ve been able to achieve today to the invaluable resources provided by the Rural Action Centre in Alberton. When I first started, a fellow business owner recommended I explore their offerings, and it was some of the best advice I’ve received. My recommendation to anyone else starting a business would be the same — take advantage of what they have to offer.
Broderick’s Flowers & Coffee is a full-service coffee house offering a wide selection of fair-trade, ethically sourced coffee. We serve a variety of your favorite baked goods alongside a thoughtfully curated lunch menu. In addition to our coffee shop, we are a flower boutique specializing in weddings, events, and holiday arrangements.

I’ve participated in several of the workshops offered by the Rural Action Centre, and plan to attend more in the future. The sessions on social media strategy and accounting were especially beneficial, providing practical insights that I now apply daily in my business.
Small businesses are the backbone of our communities, and without the support of organizations like the Rural Action Center, many wouldn’t receive the guidance they need to thrive.
“Being part of Barb MacDonald’s email list is also incredibly helpful. I appreciate the timely notifications about upcoming workshops, which are filled with valuable information for both me and my team.”
