RECRUIT AND RETAIN TALENT IN FRANCOPHONE MINORITY COMMUNITIES

Hosted by Bruce Joshua

This workshop will be led by Bruce Joshua on March 4, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Wellington Rural Action Center in collaboration with the Acadian and Francophone Chamber of Commerce of Prince Edward Island.

Workshop description:

In a rapidly changing job market, attracting and retaining French-speaking and bilingual workers has become a strategic issue for businesses and non-profit organizations in Prince Edward Island. This interactive workshop provides a dynamic space to understand the realities of recruiting in a minority context and to develop concrete strategies tailored to your organization’s resources and challenges.

Through discussions, local examples, and practical tools, participants will leave better equipped to strengthen their ability to attract talent, improve the integration of new hires, and build an organizational culture that promotes long-term retention.

Learning outcomes:

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. -Identify the main obstacles to attracting French-speaking and bilingual talent and analyze the factors that influence their ability to recruit (demographics, competition, linguistic identity, employer brand).
  2. -adopt at least three recruitment strategies (communication, partnerships, welcoming, integration, use of French-speaking networks) tailored to their own organizational reality.

-Develop a short retention action plan that includes realistic measures tailored to their organization’s resources (inclusive culture, recognition, professional development, flexibility, community engagement).
