Marcel Bernard – Village musical acadien

PEI’s rich Acadian culture is brought to life through cuisine, art and especially music. All three are showcased at the Village musical acadien, a veritable mecca for local community members and tourists alike, in Abram-Village.
President of the Board of Directors, Marcel Bernard, has been involved with the Village musical acadien since the early days.
From the establishment of the Centre Expo-Festival in 1998 to the major expansion and transformation of the original facility into the Village musical acadien in 2014, Marcel has been a driving force behind the initiative.
The Village musical acadien encompasses multiple buildings with several performance halls, an outdoor stage and terrace, an art gallery, a restaurant, and a bakery.
It is the main cultural and tourist destination in the Evangeline region through the dedication of many volunteers and community workers like Marcel.
The Rural Action Centre in Wellington has been an important resource for the Village musician acadien over the years.
Staff and volunteers have participated in training workshops offered the Rural Action Centre. In addition, the information provided by the Rural Action Centre about various government programs has allowed the Village musical acadien to apply for funding to help support year-round programming.
Marcel is a strong promoter of Acadian culture. His intention has always been to work on developing the Acadian tourism product to improve it in order to better promote his culture and heritage.
“It is important to have a Rural Action Centre in the region to support small and medium businesses.”
