New Employment Standards Act

July 14, 2026

New Employment Standards Act
What does this mean for your business or workplace?

The purpose of PEI’s Employment Standards Act is to establish the minimum rights and responsibilities of employees and employers, ensuring fair treatment, clear workplace expectations, and consistent employment standards across the province. A new version of the Employment Standards Act came into effect on June 30, 2026. Check this document: Key Changes – ESA 2026.pdf to see how the changes to the ESA affect your workplace.

Attention Rural Towns & Municipalities

Deadline July 31

The PEI Rural Beautification Society is offering towns and municipalities the opportunity to be rewarded for their community spirit. Towns and Municipalities are invited to apply HERE before July 31, 2026.

Two prizes of $1000 each will be rewarded. The town and the municipality with the most votes from its residents will take home the cash prize to be put towards a community enhancement project. Voting will be open from August 15 to September 15, 2026. Find more details about the Community Spirit Peopleโ€™s Choice Award HERE.

Keeping Our Shorelines Free of Debris

Healthy shores and coastal waters are vital for PEIโ€™s wildlife, tourism, and local industries. Student crews are now working across PEI to remove debris and waste from our coastlines. Rural residents can play an important role in supporting this effort by reporting areas that need cleanup. If you notice debris along a shoreline, please report it online or call 1-833-734-1873. Reporting helps crews prioritize their work and respond quickly, keeping our Islandโ€™s coastlines safe, clean, and beautiful for everyone.
