New Wage Subsidy Program = More Rural Employment Opportunities
The Rural Enhancement Employment Program, previously known as the Rural Jobs Initiative, will provide employers with wage subsidies to train and mentor new employees. Effective April 1, 2023, the updated program criteria includes:
- 50 per cent wage subsidies to private sector employers;
- 75 per cent wage subsidies to not-for-profit organizations;
- subsidy rate coverage up to $18 per hour (increased from $15.60 per hour);
- subsidies for up to 20 weeks; and,
- Applicants will be limited to one subsidy per year.
Contact the Community Development Officer at your local Rural Action Centre for an application. Applications will be accepted beginning April 1, 2023.
Community Revitalization Program
The Community Revitalization Program makes strategic investments in infrastructure that is important for rural culture, society, and economic development. Applications for 2023/24 will be accepted beginning April 1, 2023.
Eligible applicants include:
- Incorporated non-profit organizations which have a mandate for community and/or economic development
- Non-profit cooperatives that do not share dividends
- Municipal governments
- Band councils (or their development agency)
