Small Business Week 2026: Free Legal Risk Training for Entrepreneurs

Small Business Week is October 19 to 23, 2026 and will feature practical learning opportunities for entrepreneurs and small business owners across Prince Edward Island. The Rural Action Centres are partnering with subject-matter experts to deliver business-focused information sessions and workshops to help entrepreneurs start, grow, and protect their businesses.

Our featured training event is Legal Risk Essentials for Small Business, a free half-day workshop presented by well known business trainer, Ron Robichaud and lawyers from Cox & Palmer. The Wellington workshop will be delivered in French.

This session will help entrepreneurs understand and reduce risk related to business structure, contracts, financial practices, intellectual property, and human resource management. Participants will learn:

• Strategies for reducing financial and legal risk
• Best practices for contracts and agreements
• How to protect intellectual property and business assets
• Employment obligations and workplace risk management
• Practical tools for preventing legal issues before they arise

Tariff Relief for PEI Businesses

If your business is affected by U.S. tariffs, supply chain disruptions, or export market uncertainty, support is available. ACOA’s Regional Tariff Response Initiative offers funding to help businesses manage cash flow challenges, improve productivity, and diversify markets. Innovation PEI’s Prince Edward Island Tariff Impact Relief Fund supports market diversification, supply chain improvements, automation, and other adaptation projects. The program is expected to remain open until March 31, 2027, subject to available funding.

Ignition Fund – Information Sessions

The Fall application round is now open for Innovation PEI’s Ignition Fund. Aspiring entrepreneurs – who have an innovative product or service they want to bring to market – may wish to apply to the Ignition Fund. They will compete against other applicants for up to $25000 in seed capital. Information Sessions will be held at the Rural Action Centres and other locations in early October.
