Tanja and Karl Barth relocated from Germany to Canada in late 2019. In their newly adopted home, they combined their business skills with their love of nature, hospitality and cooking to open a small tourism business.
Since 2020, they have been hosting travellers and other guests at: Forest and Lake PEI Cottages and Bed & Breakfast in Murray Harbour.
Set on 20 acres of forest featuring a 1 km lake winding through the shady trees, the idyllic property is the perfect location for visitors to explore Eastern PEI. The charming accommodation will also appeal to Islanders looking for a place just down the road where they can unwind and enjoy a touch of European hospitality.
Tanja and Karl appreciate the comprehensive in-person assistance available to them at the Montague Rural Action Centre. This support and trusted source of information was especially important when their new business was impacted by both the Covid 19 pandemic and Hurricane Fiona.

Tanja and Karl believe in the value of providing access to business development supports in Eastern PEI.
“Our region needs personal support here on site in Montague. We don’t always have the time to travel long distances. Face-to-face meetings are important to us. We have confidence in the knowledgeable staff at the Rural Action Centre. If there is a need, other staff are brought in to talk as well.”
